2 Cities, Temples, Hill
tribes and Handicrafts
Visit some of the oldest and most important temples (Wats) of the area
before continuing to visit some of the local hilltribe villages. All
retain distinct cultures, language and religious beliefs, though the
most obvious difference is their dress and elaborate costume. The afternoon
tour focuses on handicrafts, with visits to Sunkampaeng, with its Thai
silk and cotton looms; Bo Sarng, the paper and umbrella-making village;
the Celadon kilns, with its exquisite, traditional high-fired stoneware;
lacquer ware, teak-wood carving, jewelry and silverware factories. (B)
Day
3 Elephants at work
Watch the elephants taking their morning bath in the running stream
before starting their day's training and work. See the demonstration
of elephants at work, and then enjoy a fascinating journey bamboo rafting
down the Mae Ping River for one hour. Drive to Mae Sa to visit an Orchid
Nursery and Butter Farm before returning to the hotel. Afternoon at
leisure (B)

4 Depart Chiang Mai
